A profusion of slender stems, seed heads and wild vegetation fills the composition, rising through generous layers of fresh green, vivid yellow, deep blue and flashes of magenta and pink. Susan’s loose, expressive handling of watercolour gives the painting its wonderful sense of movement. Colour overlaps and mingles across the surface, while delicate marks and stronger gestural strokes suggest the changing textures of grasses, leaves, flowers and seeding plants.
